Terror in Torreon: 9 die, 21 wounded in funeral shootout

Nine unidentified individuals were shot to death and another 21 were wounded in a mass shooting at a funeral in Torreon, Coahuila Monday afternoon, according to Mexican news accounts.

According to news stories posted on the websites of EL Diario de Coahuila news daily and a wire dispatch which appeared on the website of El Sol de Zacatecas news daily, the shooting took place at the cemetery Jardines del Tiempo at around 1620 hrs.  The cemetery is located near the intersection of the  Torreon-Matamoros road and Avenida Gilberto Rodriguez.

A news report posted on the website of El Sol de Mexico news daily reported that two more unidentified individuals died of their wounds.  Three others of the 21 who were taken for medical attention were listed in serious condition.  Two of the shooting victims were children, but only one is said to have died.

According to press reports, some of the shooters were within the crowd of mourners and used 9mm, .45, .25 calibers and .38 Super pistols.  Five pistols were abandoned at the scene.  Other spent shell casings were found at the scene prompting speculation in the press that at least some of the mourners counterfired their own weapons brought to the funeral.

According to the El Sol de Zacatecas story, armed suspects arrived at the scene aboard three SUVs, dismounted and commenced firing, presumably prompting some mourners to return fire.

The funeral was for an individual identified as Ricardo Valdez Tacubaya whose body was found in a vehicle Saturday.  Valdez Tacubaya resided in Ejido San Pedro.

  4. "Five pistols were abandoned at the scene."

Sounds like they were not working for organized crime if they left the guns behind. Sounds more like citizens did the shooting. Having left the guns behind all that is needed is an identification of those who showed up at the cemetery. If the guns were not handled by the wrong people the finger prints may be found on the guns: "Book 'em Dano!" from the Hawaii 5-0, an American police procedural drama television series)

I feel bad for the innocent people who needlessly lost their lives

  6. If you all were to choose only ONE biography then whose would it be among the Mexican Drug Lords : 1) Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera aka El Chapo OR 2) Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano aka Z3 OR. 3) Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales aka Z40? Might be a stupid question for some of you but just curious to know which one of the above people are more interested to know about...I don't write autobiographical nor am an author of any sort...As for me it would be Z3 as that bloke is an enigma.

    1. I agree with Z3. Altho Chapo is very mysterious, more has been written about him than Lazca.

  7. So apparently the People of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas have placed "mantas" around the city and say they are tired of the violence and will fight back with guns.

  9. If I were to choose one biography it would the biography of the CREATOR of ALL that EXISTS and what I'd like to know is What Kind Of Punishment Awaits the jerks who you've mentioned and the jerks who have betrayed their countrymen who have joined criminal organizations who have murdered and stolen peace of mind & the belongings of hard working Mexicans. These bastards have brought a tremendous amount of suffering to the Mexican families who only want an honest living and good family values, respect and peace.

For some reason I didn't see the part where the people at the funeral were visited by gunman (armed suspects arrived at the scene aboard three SUVs and commenced firing). Amongst the mourners there may have been friends or family of the deceased who are into crime themselves which explains why they had guns on hand in the first place; they knew that they may receive an unfriendly visit and wanted to be able to defend themselves.

This is as low as it gets when armed men show up at a funeral to kill people who are saying their final good bye to someone they knew and if there is a Satan this was the work of Satan's Helper! What despicable monsters from hell.

  21. ¿WTF? Is this the O.K. Corral Or what? Who would have thought that we would be living as if in one of those dark western themed comic books. Where are the authorities in all of this? I know that you can't be everywhere at once but WTF? Being in charge means that you can cut through the B.S. and get to the bottom of what is going on. Maybe the authorities should take a lesson from the 'bad guys' and try to take back a 'plaza'. LOL. Put up a
