Two Bodyguards Killed in Attack on Mexican Official

Two bodyguards were killed Tuesday in an attack on the public safety secretary of the northern Mexican town of Gran Morelos, the Chihuahua state government said.

Miguel Angel Gomez Carrera, his wife and the couple’s two young children were wounded in the assault, which took place in Chihuahua city, the state capital.

All four members of the family are listed in serious but stable condition at a hospital in the city, state Attorney General’s Office spokesman Carlos Gonzalez told Efe.

Gomez Carrera and his family traveled in one vehicle and his escorts, identified only as a man and a woman, accompanied the secretary in a pickup truck.

The two vehicles headed down a street in Chihuahua city when assailants blocked their path and started shooting, Gonzalez said.

Gomez Carrera took over responsibility for public safety in Gran Morelos, a town of around 4,000 people, after the Nov. 21 arrest of predecessor Ramon Muñoz Cepeda, who was apprehended by army troops along with a reputed drug trafficker and several other suspects.

The town’s current mayor, Ricardo Solis Manriquez, was elected in July 2010, but did not take office until late last month due to injuries he received in a September 2010 attack.

Mexican federal authorities view municipal officials as particularly susceptible to being threatened or co-opted by the country’s powerful drug cartels.

  1. Why doesn't this ever happen in canada? They share a border with us. You'd think some canadian drug cartels would come down & buy assault rifles

  2. What a dumbass comment. Canada has turned into a typical UK scared-shitless country where you can't even own handguns let alone assault rifles. Instead of carping about what's going on in Mexico maybe you should be spending your free time worrying about what's happened to your own individual freedom. Christ what a joke you've become.

  3. Talk about a dumb comment...news flash for you genius the quality of life in Canada or the UK for that matter is far superior than that of Mexco or the US, in terms of crime rate and employment. Please, explain what individual freedoms one has lost by residing in Canada or the UK? If your talking about gun ownership, well that's just plain retarded! BTW dumbass gun ownership in either country (Canada or the UK) IS LEGAL..the procedure is different from the US (strict yes..illegal no).

  5. Unarmed UK cops love to look down their noses at armed US cops. They feel so safe on their little island they even make nice with arab terrorists.

Like the rest of Europe UK let in a bunch of muslim refugees. Now they have a bunch of home-grown muslim terrorists that they have to spend billions to monitor, investigate, arrest, etc.

So tell me again why the US should be concerned about the poor Mexican that can't find work or safety or justice in his own country. Send 'em to Europe.

  10. Don't make me laugh. Living in Europe is awful, that's why people risked their lives and got the hell out of there. All the euro-trash countries think they're so goddamn superior. You people think you're better than us because you don't have the freedom to own a gun? Who's guns were the ones that saved your sorry asses in World War II? You would all be marching around speaking German if it weren't for American firearms.

  11. Yeah but the question is who will be saving your ass the next couple of years? Dont count on the rest of the world becuase we hate you. Try to fix your economy with your guns. LOL. Your contry is f'ed and its all your own fault.

And yeah, our standards here are way superior to yours, thats a fact.

Actually, they try to fix economy with guns, literally. Guns and ammo are so big industry in US. Now they are putting Mexican drug cartels in terrorist category just for excuse to get involved with them with guns.
One more war (of course not on own land), makes people to look away of shitty economics at home and same time money for gun industry.

Take your popcorns and lean back, you'll laugh for responses what this post makes. ;)

  13. Well, I have to admit, we Americans ARE stupid. Or should I say our government so-called "leaders" are stupid.

We have a porous border that the Federal government refuses to address. A porous border that not only allows daily free access to our country by the Mexican drug cartels, but also by terrorist organizations like Hezbollah who use those same drug trafficking routes.

We have an idiot as head of our so-called Department of "Homeland Security" who publicly claims that "our borders are safer than ever," and she says it with a straight face.

We have an idiot in the White House who directs the idiot Attorney General in the so-called Department of "Justice" to prevent states such as Arizona from defending their citizens against the Mexican drug dealers and mules who rape, rob and murder their citizens on a near daily basis.

As to guns, if the ranchers and citizens living along our southern boarder didn't have them to defend themselves against the murderous drug traffickers stealing across their lands, breaking into their homes, killing their owners and their pets then they would become nothing but tethered lambs set up for slaughter.

Gun ownership is a Constitutional RIGHT in America. Our Founding Fathers were well aware that a disarmed society could never defend itself against a government who might decide turn against them. We have the RIGHT to bear arms against a tyrannical government as well as a natural right to self preservation, just as every other living creature on the planet has a right to do.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. In part it states:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, SHALL NOT be infringed."

Prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Admiral Yamamoto tried to warn Japanese political leaders of the folly of going to war with the US. He told them:

"...Should hostilities once break out between Japan and the United States, it is not enough that we take Guam and the Philippines, nor even Hawaii and San Francisco. To make victory certain, we would have to march into Washington and dictate the terms of peace in the White House. I wonder if our politicians, among whom armchair arguments about war are being glibly bandied about in the name of state politics, have confidence as to the final outcome and are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices.

You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass...."

Yamamoto was right on the money and today, any invading Army would find at least two rifles behind every blade of grass.

If Europeans choose to give up their natural right to defend their lives, not to mention their freedom, that's fine with me. But this American will never give up that RIGHT. Not ever, not without one hell of a fight to the death.
