59 escape, 7 die during Nuevo Laredo prison break

Mexican authorities announced a prison break in Nuevo Laredo in which 59 prisoners escaped, seven died and five guards abandoned their posts, according to a news release from the Tamaulipas state government.

The situation at the Nuevo Laredo Detention Center (CEDES), where more than 1,200 prisoners are housed, is under control, Mexican officials said. Federal and local authorities are investigating, while the Mexican military and federal police work to capture the escapees and guards who abandoned their posts.

Law enforcement officials expect to beef up patrols at other prisons throughout the country, authorities said. They were placed on alert and officials were working to reinforce security at the other facilities.

Thirty-five of the 59 escapees are federal prisoners, officials said.

Authorities did not provide any other information in the news release.

  1. Why don't they say, "Prisoners walked out of jail while the guards were distracted trying to count their tip money from the cartels" And didn't this happen last year or was it the warden was just granting sleep over for sicarios if they returned after executions before 7 AM?

  2. You're looking at the gate and wondering, why, that gate looks in bad conditions, why, those vehicles are too damn close to the building, the fence needs to be farther away. Chalk another one up for man's futile need to imprison himself. Could all this have been avoided? No. Man cannot avoid being this stupid. Either you imprison them by the millions, wasting our tax paying dollars or you let them go once in a while. One thing's for sure, man continues to fail. What he needs is mother nature or God to unleash a new plage and wipe us all out and give a whole new species another chance at this world. We sure didn't know what to do with it.

  3. Prison guards have it bad. What are their options? Quit before they are even approached. You get approached just once and its game over.

  4. Mexican prisons are a joke! Geez, I wonder why the guards split? $$$? Working for the cartels? Until Mexico stops its corruption, this war is NEVER going to go away. I feel sorry for the Mexican people with such a government and the dangerous cartels. Personally, I think the UN needs to get involved; declare international martial law and bring in foreign troops!

  6. I'm pretty sure the Mexicans would prolly let the country burn by their own hand than let a bunch of different ass foreign countries, bust in, kill it's people, then tell them how to run shit. First off you'll look like the biggest bitch of all countries ( can't even handle and control your own people so you got to rely on others *ahem* u.s. ). And let's substitute Mexico with America for a second. Would we allow that shit? Hell No! We'd arm and defend ourselves cause we wait for shit to pop off like that. Mexicans however aren't as armed as we are. The cartels however are. They get our guns from us after all. Alguien quiere una AR15?

  9. Last year 150 walked out of a prison in Nuevo Laredo, now its only 59 sounds like Mexico is making progress,at least by Mexican standards. Remember the big gun fight a few months ago ,in a Mexican prison, or the female wardon running a hit team out of a prison using prison guns. All you can say is ITS MEXICO.

  10. Fuck no!! we Mexican will NEVER accept another country specially the US to invade our country. It's never going to happen if they try it's war, we mexicans dont care if the US supposedly has the best army in the world, which I doubt by the way, everyone knows that it's china. But like I was saying it's not gonna happen and a war with U.S is not unlikely because I doubt Mexican are scared of them and because if they try to invade us with the whole war on drugs excuse it's only gonna get worse. So all you idiots get over that idea of USA invading Mexico It's never going to happen it's actually happening the other way around.

  13. The US has absolutley NO INTEREST in MEXICO, What does Mexico have that any other country would be interested in DRUG ROUTES INTO THE USA?? Listening to Nationalistic Mexicans is always interesting, just what is it that Mexico is so proud of,why the paranoid ideas that Mexico is a target for invasion, the country is beautiful, but the culture is backward, resistant to improvement, with large ethical issues, and political confusion.

  15. July 17,2011 3:30 pm,said "why this paranoid ideas that Mexico is a target for invasion". Idk maybe the fact that were right next to a country,USA,who has gained a reputation of not minding it's own buisness and invading other countries for an alleged great purpose and to help bullshit. USA is gaining alot of enemies for always being selfish just because they got a very skilled army and they do I am admitting it eventhough they got their ass kicked in Vietnam but anyways like was saying just cus they have a skilled army doesn't mean they could go around starting wars and invading a country space, it's like if their trying to bully other country jus cus they are less rich and skilled in the way they handle things.
