12 "Grupo Elite" Sinaloa state police officers killed in Guasave ambush

Two hours after a group of State Preventive Police officers were attacked in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, a convoy of “Grupo Elite” officers, an elite unit of Sinloa’s State Police used in operations against organized crime, was ambushed on Federal Highway 15 in the municipality of Guasave, leaving a toll of 12 officers and a civilian dead.

The attack occurred at approximately 6:00pm today.

The officers were returning from northern Sinaloa to their base in the state capitol of Culiacan after providing security in Los Mochis for the director of Sinaloa’s Department of Public Safety, Francisco Cordova Celaya, during a function in that northern Sinaloa city.

Cordova Celaya, whose office confirmed the deaths, was not with the officers as he had flown to Culiacan via helicopter.

The dead civilian was identified as Alvaro Gallardo, 29, a driver for a food distributor who was caught in the ambush.

Ealier in the afternoon a unit of State Preventive Police was ambushed in the Jiquilpan section of Los Mochis and municipal police officers were attacked in the Tepeca area of the city. No fatalities were reported in these attacks but several officers were injured.

It is unknown if any gunmen were killed or captured during the shootings in Los Mochis and Guasave.

On May 30 of this year up to 19 "narco” banners were hung in several municipalities of Sinaloa, including Guasave and Culiacan, accusing Governor Mario Lopez Valdez of having links to Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and calling the Grupo Elite a paramilitary arm of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The banners were hung by Beltran Leyva loyalists, known locally as Mazatlecos or Mochomeros, who accuse the Grupo Elite force of attempting to sweep them out of their stronghold in northern Sinaloa and leaving the area open for El Chapo Guzman.

  2. So much for being elite... I am not impressed with Mexican law enforcement. Unquestionably, they were not focused or mentally prepared for something like this while in transit. It is incidents such as this that the Mexican Army MUST take the lead and continue the fight against these cartel bad guys! Police cannot meet this vicious, heavily armed killers one on one! Someone best realize the cartels are at war with Mexico! No police officer in Mexican should be armed with anything less than an assault rifle and mulitple clips. This should not have happened! Mexican law enforcement needs to get better if they are going to survive!

  3. I am not being sarcastic when I ask this question, but how true is it when the police act as paramilitary force for the cartel? Is this really true? I've been reading various articles online and the general accusation is that being a police officer in Mexico is the precursor to being a hitman.

  4. Love how all of the sudden everyones paying attention. This shit has been happening here for decades, you just hear about it more thanks to the media and Internet. All this attention just goes to show how fucked up the Mexican government is. They're already walking around with assault rifles "and multiple clips". Still losing! What good is the weaponry if you can't even use it. They aren't trained to fight this kind of warfare, that's why they deployed the Army and Mexican marines. The thing is, these motherfuckers think the cartels are bullshitting.Nothey're getting serious with you bitches. If you put yourself in that position willingly then by all means you signed your death waiver. Both sides know they might not see tomorrow, hence why the attacks are getting more brazen, organized..not to mention produce a plethora of fatalities. Let them kill eachother.. They get paid to anyway...

  6. @11:15 yeah 'cause if they didn't get their weapons from the US they would be fighting with pocket knives and slingshots. Sure.

  7. Its time for other countries to get militarily involved before these cartels get there hands on a nuclear device...

  8. Sad. I get as caught up as anybody in the who what where why of the stories, but these people all probably had wives and family they were going to. Beltran Leyva's are definitely trying to make a stand here, after laying low for most of last year, my personal opinion is it won't amount to much in the end, although I stress that is just my thoughts.

  9. No amount of training can prepare you for an ambush esp. a well planned one at that. You just take cover and pray you survive. How do you think the US lost the Vietnam war. Ambush and run! Same strategy here.

I recommend You to read "El Sicario" named book. It gives you some insight for your question.

  11. There are a lot more guns in America than in mexico, so to blame the violence on american guns makes no sense

  14. It looks like beltran levyas still got alot of firepower.

  15. Yeah everyone knows that the new elite group is really chapos sicarios trying to wipe out la mochomera or la limpia mazatleca Beltran levya sicarios but it's not gonna happen that one of their strongholds.

    ReplyDelete
  16. how long before they break out el mochomo?

    ReplyDelete
  17. huh3:17 am. idk i heard that they gave him 5 years you know alot money talks.and mochomo has already been locked up for like 4 already so when he gets out its going to get even more crazy.Alfredo beltran leyva is currently in san diego california locked up.

  18. 10;51 PM. YEAH it is sadly true. Why do you think this so called elite group only does operations in northern and southern sinaloa where beltran leyvas have their plazas. They never do an operation in culiacan chapos territory were there is a gang load of sicarios of the sinaloa cartel.I WONDER WHY.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Beltran leyvas are not gonna get kicked out of their own state and that's a fact well atleast not without a major battle until all there elements they got there are killed or arrested and they have alot of sicarios in the state of Sinaloa. They have to if they control northern and southern Sinaloa and constantly battling the Sinaloa cartel and the government. This has been going on ever since they split from the Sinaloa cartel in 2008

    ReplyDelete
  20. They need to be rolling tanks and blackhawks into those strongholds, this should be the catalyst to invite the U.S. military in... Does Mexico even have a tank or an air force?

    ReplyDelete
  21. The attacks on Fed and State police CAN NOT GO UNANSWered, there must be retaliation. Criminal gangs must be made to pay a heavy price for these insane attacks, MEXICO the ball is in your court now DO SOMETHING.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks for the post Gerardo, this certainly is not good, there is something brewing in the "Los Mochis" region, hopefully they can regain control before things get out of hand, but in reality we can expect fireworks!

  23. @3:59
Alfredo is in Puente Grande, Jalisco. Who tell you he is in San Diego.

    @11:15
Another Calderon big fan.Blamig other for our problems, it really pisses me off.

My opinion. Many here are saying that the police will not defeat the Beltranes, i think they will do, chapos and grupo elite work in silence, arresting, getting inteligence, abducting and disappearing people, etc. Then the raction comes, this kind of things, public and gruesome attacks, and that gives the impression to the population that chapos is loosing. Remember el Arturo Beltran, killing in mass, leaving messeges, attacking federal officers, and what happened to him?

In my personal opinion, when a strong Cartel and the Government remains allied, they will have the advantage over the rest, of course it will be a hard fight, but with over time, at the end they will impose over the rest. It has happen many times.

  24. I heard that the police doesn't even patrol that region nomore do to the commandos that cruise around in a groups up to 50 vehicles. I wonder why they don't really report alot from Sinaloa.Could it be that the mexican government and chapo Guzman are losing against these Beltran carillo zetas in sinaloa??? It's obvious they don't go against all the Mexican government because the low level ones are bought but the military and this new grupo elite which seems to emerge out of no where. There's definitely a war going on and once again it's cus chapos not too happy with the territory he has.

  25. Damn that video is pretty crazy where you just see them all laying down. The video also mentions that some tried to run towards the bushes on the side of the road but didn't escape the hail of bullets.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What ever did happen to Alfredo beltran el mochomo??I think it's pretty suspicious how ever since he got locked up you hear nothing about him. I wouldn't be suprised if the US government is making a deal with him I mean the guy does have hundreds of millions of dollars.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wait so this was just one ambush where 12 people died?? Because in this report it also mentions how the police were also attacked in two other parts of the city. That's crazy I guess the beltranes trying to show everyone, Mexican government, sinaloa cartel who really runs this city.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Son patadas de ahogados. Los Mazatlecos are desperate. They're losing territory and people. The only way they "win" is by ambushing.I see this being the Beltanes last year.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What happened to Arturo? He died because la barbie informed the government of his location cOme on the fact that he did all those things he did really had nothing to do with his death. @11:06 and I said the police or the government will not defeat the beltranes without a major battle until all their elements, ppl, sicarios are killed. That's not the only city they run in sinaloa if the government is going to respond, which I'm sure they will,I wouldn't doubt the beltranes are getting ready for it.Also if the government doest not catch fausto isidro Flores alias el chapillo leader of the north Sinaloa region for the Beltran then I doubt the governments response was good.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hey BB what happened to the 11:15 post? You take it down? Why?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why do you think Arturo Beltran died? He died because la barbie informed the government of his location come on you should no this by now all those thing he did was not what brought him down.@11:06 and I said that the police, government will not beat the beltranes without a major battle or until they kill all their elements, ppl, sicarios that not the only city they run in Sinaloa. If the government does respond, which I'm sure they will,I wouldn't doubt beltranes are waiting or ready for it.Also if they don't arrest kill fausto isidro Flores alias el chapillo leader of the north Sinaloa region for the Beltran then I doubt the governments responce was any good.

  32. All I know is that chapos cartel has basically fought every other cartel with the help of the government and has yet to defeat one. Or has yet to take over their territory.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't think Los mazatlecos are desperate when rivals dressed up as an elite grupo of the government that works for chapo enters your territory I think it's normal for you to take them out.Yeah it's going to look bad but still doesn't change the fact that they are intruders.

    ReplyDelete
  34. the video says they need at least 13 sicarios to ambush each truck?? is that true?

  35. Mindframe Los AngelesJuly 16, 2011 at 6:00 PM

Chapo is always ready, the Leyvas are fools for even thinking they will win. Chapo has all of Sinaloa already payed off.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Chapo does not have all of Sinaloa payed off if he did he wouldn't have 3 or 4 years trying to get the Beltran leyvas out.The truth is that the Beltran leyvas have alot of influence in their own state that they have been operating for alot years yes more then chapo it's actually mayo who has alot of influence in Sinaloa not chap just so you guys know

    ReplyDelete
  37. Beltrans or zetas are very well trained. Chapo thinks having more ppl is better this is the result, not even with the gov on his side he needs to send his real ppl the ones that are next to him. He will have that area.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Getting ambushed in a moving vehicle with no armor protection is a death sentence. If you are lucky you will get a few rounds off assuming you know exactly where the fire is coming from and the vehicle is stable enough to keep your balance if you are in the back of the truck.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 13 Sicarios? Probably. The video really tells the tale. Out the passenger side is a ditch line that the initial ambush was launched from. You can tell as all of the bodies are on the drivers sides of the truck as they unassed and ran for cover.
Then, the sicarios in the ditch line on the drivers side opened up on 'em as they ran towards them, running toward what they thought was cover. Textbook, crossfire ambush and well coordinated. You have to have the guys who start the ambush to cease firing and get down so the guys across the road can open up without killing their compadres. It takes coordinated communications and a bit of practice.

  40. I agree with most of the comments. I am mexican and I am from the state of Sinaloa. Its sad to say but the Mexican government is very corrupt. People fear for their lives , and everything is because there is such a huge demand for drugs in the United states. If the Mexican government could train its forces better and properly equip its law enforcement they might have a chance against these criminals. My country is not the same anymore, things have been going on for years but now it is more and more evident that events like this are occurring on a daily basis...
