Sinaloa suffers 46 murders last week

Sinaloa, a state in Mexico's northwest with a long history of violence, saw 46 murders during the week that began Monday, June 6th thru Sunday, June 12th.

The Sinaloa cartel is named after the state where most of its leadership was born.

The 46 murders that occurred ths past week included 2 women, a policeman and a doctor.

Statistics from the state Attorney General's office that since the beginning of the year Sinaloa has seen 900 homicides.

In the first 12 days of this month 66 people have been killed, an average of 5.1 murders per day.

The current PAN governor, Mario Lopez Valdez, began his term at the beginning of the year but has been unable to keep campaign promises of reigning in the violence, which has increased steadily during the current drug war begun by President Felipe Calderon.

  1. PAN makes such sweet promises, don't they?

'The current PAN governor, Mario Lopez Valdez, began his term at the beginning of the year but has been unable to keep campaign promises of reigning in the violence, which has increased steadily during the current drug war begun by President Felipe Calderon.'

...but end up delivering worse than there was even before. Mexicans don't really want to vote PRI in the upcoming elections next year, but what choice are they really given? When they have elected the PRD to Los Pinos, the elections are simply stolen through fraud..

  3. I agree, Sinaloa is the birthplace of all of this mess, I hate to say it but it's nice to see them feel the wrath of their actions!

  4. I am so tired of the phrase "during the drug war begun by President Calderon"

This implies that everything was wonderful and peaceful prior to Calderon. This is far from the truth. The cartel activity was ignored and aided for so long under previous governments that the monster was stirring just below the surface, growing, getting stronger every day. I have lived here for 13 years and saw some of it first hand. But we all turned a blind eye to the corruption, grumbling each time we paid off a crooked cop at a fake traffic stop. Crimes weren't reported because everyone knows the police are part of the problem.

There were plenty of kidnappings, extortion and robberies in the past. But there was an institutional blindness to it while the politicians, police and military collected payments.

This was due to escalate on its own. It is just that Calderon was afraid how strong the beast would become if it were ignored any longer and he stirred things up.

Does anyone think for a second that, with all the money involved, the cartel war would NOT have heated up? There is too much money involved, less "honor" than there was decades ago, a desensitization that has creeped in that makes the cartels do even more outrageous things to terrorize, like beheading and skinning.

The vast majority of deaths in Mexico in recent years has been inter-cartel. Unfortunately the large numbers has also led to an increase in civilian deaths.

So, does anyone think things would be glorious if Calderon walked away from enforcing the law?

    Something to think about....
