5 Gunmen killed in Boca del Rio, Veracruz

Five gunmen were killed just after midnight Saturday during a confrontation with a military patrol in the streets of central Boca del Rio, Veracruz.

The clash occurred when the gunmen travelling in at least two SUV’s were intercepted by an Army patrol at the confluence of Adolfo Ruiz Cortines and Manuel Avila Cavazos boulevards. A pursuit ended several blocks later at the intersection of A.R. Cortines and Mar Cantabrico.

The area of the shooting was sealed off and a Marine helicopter aided in the search for other suspects.

Five more gunmen were detained and one soldier was wounded according to official sources.

The incident occurred not far from the location where up to 100,000 residents and tourists were attending the annual Boca Del Rio International Salsa Festival.

Tito Nieves and Willie Colon were ending their concert at the time of the shooting.

After the incident state police established a security cordon around the festival grounds and fortunately no further incidents were reported.

  2. Greenberg is so full of it! He's a USAer 'travel writer' who also specializes in doing propaganda puff pieces about the US government's political allies amongst foreign elites. This CBS gnus interview that is alluded to but not linked to is here...

Gerardo, you gave the impression that Greenberg, along with Calderon, were both falsely trying to give tourists the idea that Mexico was safe safe safe...

'...concert goers at the salsa festival taking in Felipe Calderon's statement in an interview with travel industry journalist Peter Greenburg that the only shots tourists get in Mexico are Tequila shots.'

Far from that though, Greenberg was pushing more drug war for the American public and his bs about Calderon's 'bunker' was meant to encourage the idea that Mexico needs saving from the US government in form of more forced drug war military engagements funded out of DC.

CBS NEWS EXCLUSIVE: PETER GREENBERG INTERVIEWS MEXICAN PRESIDENT FELIPE CALDERON – INCLUDES INSIDE LOOK OF CALDERON’S SECRET, UNDERGROUND BUNKER

Oh , woo! A 'secret underground bunker'! We need to rush troops down there immediately I guess? Can't let Mr Goodbar, Fecal Calderon go down fighting in his 'bunker', can we?

God the US media feeds us up with the worst propagandistic crap imaginable... A steady diet of it, too. One war, multiple wars, hundreds of wars all at the same time! We're the greatest!

Sure Caldron wants these US funds for his military and his regime, but he couldn't just let the propaganda onslaught that Mexico was all dangerous and a 'failed state' blah blah blah Greenberg just go completely unanswered, so he threw in some of the mandatory Mexican PAN politico crap about how the US has a role in running Mexico's affairs with him at the helm, and that its the US's responsibility to get involved in funding Mexico's internal militaristic affairs.
