Zacatecas: Pueblo vs Sicarios; Two Delinquents Dead

Written by: Staff

The confrontation took place shortly after noon last Sunday after one of a group of assassins traveling in two vehicles launched a grenade at a home after the residents of Villa Cárdenas, Zacatecas refused to turn their hunting rifles over to the criminals.

Before heading out of town, three of the criminals, amongst them a woman, abducted the municipal delegate, Jesús Torres, and to date, his whereabouts is unknown.

Yesterday morning, social activist, Edith Ortega, claimed that when Jesús Torres was instructed by criminal elements to have the residents of the region turn over their weapons, he reported the incident to state authorities seeking their help, but he was ignored. She went on to say that she too denounced the situation with the authorities to no end.

“Jesús told me that they had called him and told him that everyone in the community had to turn over their weapons. He told this to the residents, but they refused. [The sicarios] called back saying that if they didn’t turn the weapons over [willingly], they would come and get them. The “pueblo” replied: if they want to come for them, we will be waiting.”

According to the activist, Sunday’s shootout began around noon and lasted until about 6 p.m. Although “calls were made to the police and the army, no one arrived. The 'pueblo' was left to fend for itself.”

She also said that after a week of non-stop threats and in light of the lack of support from the authorities, residents had to take matters into their own hands and confront the delinquents who were, for the most part, around 15 and 16 years old.

Torres’ wife informed the nearby military command zone that the sicarios had take her husband away, but there was still no response.

As of yesterday (Monday 2/28), elements of the ministerial police and investigators arrived to take away two bodies and the truck with Aguascalientes plates the sicarios left behind.
“The people tell me that two trucks full of soldiers arrived as well, but why bother now?” said Ortega.

Now the residents of Villa Cárdenas live with the fear that the criminals will return especially since they warned they would come back to “wipe everything out.”

In light of this, the social activist urged the authorities to provide the residents of Villa Cárdenas with the protection that they need.

In the afternoon the governor assured the public that the community “now is in a state of calm,” and that it is being patrolled by state and ministerial police.

According to the governor’s spokesman, Sunday’s confrontation “didn’t last longer than fifteen minutes,” and the two slain sicarios are yet to be identified.

  1. Villa Cardenas is a "sierra"(mountain village) in Zacatecas where habitants are known to be tough, fearless, aggressive towards protecting their village and especially the young 'pretty' women that live there (learned it the hard way when i went there once). It is no surprise that these villagers showed their 'hospitality' towards worthless scum bags like the Zetas with bullets.

  2. Thanks a lot mexican army, federal police who are the agencies responsible for drug enforcement. Now, after the fight is over and the mayor has been kidnapped and killed, now the place is crawling with rude, arrogant, abusive, extortionist punks in uniform - keeping everyone safe.

No, no tienen verguenza. No saben que es.

  4. Perfect example to the IDIOT TROLL on BB that says im gun crazy. If we were to have our weapons taken away we would probably be out of luck when it came down to a criminal taking over our belongings and property.

I applaud and tip my hat to these mexican citizens for standing up for whats theirs!

  6. I read in other accounts that it was only 1 guy that was taking em on. The sicarios were after his dad but he confronted them solo. Either way its good that he or the town (not sure which one is true) send them a message. Except now you gotta worry about them coming back deep and burning down the town.

  9. NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL GUN CONTROL...

brito defines gun control as being able to own, maintain, and use a firearm effectivly...

short definition...keeping your gun ready and being able to hit what you are shooting at

i hope they are making preparations for the sure to come revenge attack....be a good time for a SEAL team to drop in with a case of claymores...front towards enemy

please let the next thing we hear about this incident is that the almighty strutting narcoculeros came back for revenge and were handed their asses in a basket

i would be worried about those policias

  13. What good is the Mexican government if it can't even respond to citizens call for help. I hope no one in town is paying any sort of taxes. They are left to fend for themselves they don't owe them crap. Mexico is a failed state. I wonder how long before sections start seceeding and start forming countries of their own. God knows the centralized government has failed here.

  15. If they had enough guns at the time, they could have run after these little shits and gunned them all down. Right to self defense when threatened. Then the little shits wouldn't of had anyone to go tell, they just would of never come back.

Maybe its time to get ahold of a few granades and lob a couple at these cowards when then come around. They need to be sent a message.

The authorities message is loud and clear: we will not interfere with the ruthless scoundrels who perpertrate violence on innocent. Who then, will defend these people.

Stockpile your guns and ammunition...you may need it!

  16. These people must of been gun nuts to have the balls to defend themselves. As much as you liberals hate it legal gun ownership in Mexico does exist and is alive and well.

  17. Well, I hope it's alive n well enough to protect these people if the criminals come back to burn everything down!

  18. It's live or die! This town had the balls to face off these criminals which others should follow. They wanted their weapons so they would not be able to defend themselves for what was next; take their land, kids, wives. It's time to start a war on these bastards.

  19. these people won a battle but the war is still far from being won.

and once again, the government turns it's back. while pendejo calderon sits on his royal ass with his hands in his pockets. becuase i really hav'nt heard much about him doing anything important. he must be sitting in his office watching novelas.

does anyone know of anything special that he's done lately? i really want to know.

  20. I've been reading (and hope it's true) that there are a few towns and villages where as soon as the local police hear of new activities (as they are usually the first ones bought or threatened), the locals are made aware through the local children acting as messengers and watch-outs, the locals have armed themselves pretty heavily and they basically keep the offenders in dry wells slowly filling with flesh and cement till full on ranches and farms that ARE protected by their owners...

( Kinda funny and yet sick how good hard working people have to resort to the level of brutality that they do, just to have a space live their life and pursue their chosen goals.

  21. The Mexican government is going about this all wrong... They are going from the bottom and trying to work there way up, which in itself proves they are protecting the heads of the cartels because any idiot in a war like this knows you work from the top down...

Yes its a fact that Calderon is nothing more than a puppet for the cartels either that or they are the dumbest people on earth, trying to work from the bottom up just draws everything out way, way to long and its a waste of resources and manpower...

From the very beginning the top leaders should have been the main targets but ever since this started all we ever see is these low level dirt soldiers and once in a great while a mid level guy getting killed or captured and those are probably all by accident...

No, if this was an honest attempt to take down these cartels they would be starting at the very tops of each and everyone, thats how you do maximum damage, it takes out the money so then no one gets paid and then things begin to fall apart but the way that I see them doing its all bullshit...- Grande Goat Horn
