LFM Leader Confirmed Dead

México City.- Nazario Moreno González, alias El Chayo o El Doctor, one of the leaders and founders of la Familia Michoacana has been confirmed dead during a confrontation with federal police

According to one of the presidential press secretaries, Alejandro Poiré, three civilians and five federal police officers are also confirmed dead.Three suspects have been arrested.

However, "There are no exact numbers for the total causalities and arrests that occurred during this operation."

Alejandro Poiré assured members of the media that the operation conducted by federal armed forces in Michoacan have not yet ended and there are a few pockets of resistance and violence that are still active in the area.

"The operation has not concluded and is still in progress" confirmed Poiré during an interview with Pepe Cárdenas with Radio Fórmula and said although the violence began in the city of Apatzingán "it has since spread to other distinct zones of the state."

Poiré said that La Familia Michoacana was a “very dangerous criminal group” and that since the the presence of the federal police yesterday, the response from the organization has been "very aggressive."

The Secretary of National Security for Mexico added: “The Mexican state of Michoacan is applying all of its pressure today on these criminals and fugitives from justice," but when asked for figures on the number of deaths and arrests he declined to comment.

Poiré also said that secretary of state Francisco Blake Mora, had communicated at various times with Michoacán governor, Leonel Godoy as the two of them worked together to coordinate the actions of the state authorities and elements of the Mexican Army and Navy.

On the topic of narcobloqueos in other parts of the state, the press secretary said it was part of the strategy of La Familia of distraction and vowed they would all be captured "systematically."

PGR Helicopters go down amid chaos

Several narco blogs have been running with the story that 2 PGR helicopters have been shot down, but no credible sources have come forth with pictures or information. I think this is were the questionable information is coming from:

http://www.laopiniondemichoacan.com.mx/hemeroteca2009_/diciembre2010/principal/09/46.html

The headline reads: second PGR helicopter shot down. The article is literally 3 sentences and 2 of them aren't about the helicopter, which makes no mention of the alleged 1rst helicopter that went down.

The SSP has come out publicly and said denied the story as false and simply a rumor. I won't translate the whole thing but here is the article: http://www.cambiodemichoacan.com.mx/vernota.php?id=139635

This the story that can be proven and probably what started the confusion:

XALAPA, Veracruz- 12/8/10 - Three people also lost their lives and two were severely wounded when a PGR helicopter crashed on Wednesday afternoon, according to preliminary investigations.

Authorities say a Bell 412 helicopter crashed due to bad weather and was an accident that was unrelated to the violence in Michoacan.

  1. The non-sense rumor of helicopters being shot down was started by LFM members on varios blogs and twitter in an act of desperation. They are now cornered from all angles in that state, north, south, east, and west. Watch apitzigan very closely in the next days, it's belived that the rest of the leaders are in that region. The marines arrived in the last couple hours to provide air fire support to the feds.

  4. Forgot to state the source of the above quote came from Diariodelnarco.com. They used to be known as blogdelterror.

    http://www.diariodelnarco.com/2010/12/llega-diario-del-narco-comunicado-de-la.html

The message alludes to what appears to be a guerrilla war between the government and various armed organizations. Is this the social cleansing we keep hearing about? Could be that's what they, the cartels want us to believe but who knows.

  8. The Mexican Federal government itself would not exactly win any popularity contest in Michoacan, as the message posted here in Spanish is illustrative of.

I visited the rural areas of Michoacan 20 years ago and I saw a countryside I thought might be almost a complete duplicate in a way of how the Irish countryside during the Potato famine must have looked at the time. Hungry people, abandoned fields and the stone fences crumbling everywhere. Dirty contaminated drinking water and disease.

All the younger men had been forced to flee to find work elsewhere to support the left behind women and kids. What a complete and total disaster! However current events show that a decade of PAN rule has little improved anything there, it would so seem... This is all very sad.

  10. the USA has been arming the cartels and letting more drugs come in than are seized to create choas in Mexico so the USA can come in to help under false pretenses just to eventually seize control of Mexico's oil reserves, then destroy them to raise oil prices.

  13. the seize the oil reserves argument is a valid scenario

..but i am not convinced ..it seems like a lot of trouble for not that much reward

would it cost more to take it than to buy it? ...seems like if it was cheaper to take it , that would have already been done

    more info please?

  14. i agree the gob de Mexico has existed as an occupying force in Mexico ...and seems to have done little to help the people...it sets the stage for people developing their own industry, which in this case was growing mishmacan haha...and i am sure that in the beginning the guys doing it were pretty good guys ...trying to get by ...selling it to gringos to sell it in the USA...and the govt. officials were for sure trying to steal all they could and sell it themselves...i can really see Calderons war as a move to solidify power in anticipation of the upcoming elections...it is all such a mess...what were once robin hoods have become extortionists etc....not that government is much better than legalized extortion y protection...i just don't think we are ready for anarchy...too many bad apples yet

  16. It seems to me that if the United States was really planning to "enter" Mexico, it should start trying to get support from the American people.

    Where is the propaganda?
This stuff is barely covered in the US media.
When it is covered, it is almost always related to border security.
As it stands today, the majority of American people don't even care much less know about anything happening in Mexico.

And if it was covered they still wouldn't care.
The fact is the majority of Americans think Mexico has always been corrupt and dangerous.
They won't think anything has changed so they won't see any reason to support US involvement.

  21. I beleive that Mexico should be saved by its own society. For the love of our country, we need a leader that will organize society to know how to act when confronted by adversity, cruelness, and disorder. A true Mexican president will constantly every day appear in commercials asking loyal Mexicans to embrace peace and show solidarity for Mexico by notifying authorities of wrongdoers. MEXICO can only be saved by its own society.
