Calderon: We Do Not Work With Cartels

12/1/10 - President Felipe Calderón said today that his government has not given into the "temptation" of coming to an "arrangement" with organized crime, and solidified his resolve to confront the cartels on his own terms.

He went further to state that the federal government has "forcefully" delivered heavy blows to the drug cartels; including high profile arrests of powerful leaders, sicarios, and known operators.

Among those arrested on a national level: 24% have been from the Sinaloa Cartel; 28% Gulf/Zetas cartels; 4% a La Familia Michoacana; 12% Tijuana cartel; 15% Juárez, and 16% Beltrán Leyva cartels.

He repeated familiar mantra: The violence and its victims are generated by those who are violent criminals themselves, but this is NOT the fault of the government's strategy to combat organized crime.

Calderon pointed to advances made in danger zones, places were he has sent in federal and military intervention. Although he conceded that certain areas could be considered "no man's land."

Calderón's speech lasted about one hour and five minutes. It was broken up seven times with enthusiastic applause from audience.

The president has opted for private meetings with Centro Banamex and the National Auditor this upcoming Sunday, on the eve of the anniversary for his government.

  1. I'll believe this bs... 'Calderon: We Do Not Work With Cartels' when FeCal comes clean and admits that he never actually won the popular vote for the presidency.

  2. The Mexican government hasn't caught any of their lieutenants or their leader "La Tuta" of La Familia Michoacan. The only cartels that have taken serious blows are the Betran Leyva and Juarez Cartel(from both rivals and government). LFM and Tijuan Cartel has basically stayed the same, the Sinaloa Cartel and Los Zetas are the only ones that have gained power and influence. The Gulf Cartel took most of their blows from Los Zetas(they betrayed the CDG) but besides that only Tony Tormenta have been their serious blow from the Mexican government.

  5. Anyone who cares about Mexico should be proud of Calderon,he has taken a hard stand and is not a coward ,he is not weak,he is attempting to clean the squalor mess that has been Mexico. How many politicians anywhere in any country actually take a course and stick to it. By far Calderon is a shining light in the dark.

  6. I agree with the last two comments. Lesser people would have just looked the other way. I'm tired of hearing about all these conspiracy theories that he's favoring this cartel or the other. Hell, if he's favoring the Sinaloans, why arrest the son of one of their leaders and extradite him to the U.S. and also the brother (El Rey Zambada)? As far as LFM goes, I've been to Michoacan and believe me, the people that I've spoken to definitely say that they are getting hit hard. In our town (which for obvious reasons I won't say which one), recently had 30 men show up and just set up a tent on one of the edges of town. They stayed there for only a few days, when we found out that what happened is that they were members of LFM whose bosses had either been killed or apprehended and they didn't know what to do. So don't tell me that this president is not doing anything!

  8. Calderon is an awful president. I am not against his declaration of war with the cartels. I am not against what he has done. I am against what he hasn't done. If you are going to declare a war on the cartels, then you should not be biased. He hasn't enforced any power towards the sinaloa cartel. He hasn't done anything about establishing capital punishment. He hasn't allowed his citizens the oppurtunity to protect themselves with arms. He hasn't tried to create an alliance with the U.S. government. Instead he blames the drug war on the americans. He hasn't listened to his own peoples cries and yet you defend him. He is inadequate and too proud to serve his own people. It doesn't matter now because he already has too much blood in his hands. Let's wait for the next imposter to become president. Or maybe the next president of mexico should be EL CHAPO GUZMAN.

  9. Calderon is at the epicenter of Mexican corruption, as the promotion of his party, PAN, has more or less been the ingredient where the US has sunk its fangs yet deeper into Mexican affairs. What was ostensibly a party pushed by some of the Mexican business elites, the Catholic Church, and the US as an supposed alternative to the then one party dictatorship of the PRI, has now become the vehicle to let the US government enter into the more direct running of another country. Can anything be more corrupt than that?

  15. Mysterious forces are now at work. An high ranking member of sinaloa cartel has been killed and many of that cartel are suffering from a black plague that's invaded their sanctuaries. Something more terrible than death is plaguing them for their terror upon Mexico.
