Narco Corrido News pt 2

This second part shows that life can be just as dangerous by merely singing about the exploits of narcos. A musician can easily offend somebody or put out an unauthorized song and the repercussions can be deadly.

The video at the end is a corrido recently released about the death of Don Alejo, who stood up to a group of sicarios and fought to the death for his property. Not every song glorifies narcos and drug running, the corrido was once more than just that. This is easy to forget sometimes, because so much of the content these days is geared towards the delinquent lifestyle.

The Dangerous Life of
Corrido Singers.
Chihuahua, Chih, 10/20/10 - Norteño singer Fabián Ortega Piñón, El Halcón de la Sierra, was murdered tuesday night along with two other people. Their bodies were found on the side of the La Junta-Tomochi highway. This adds yet another name to the list of singers killed in the past few years.

Press secretary for the attorney general of the state, Carlos González, confirmed the remains of the singer was among three bodies recovered next to mile-marker 208, located right outside Ciudad Chihuahua.

El Halcón de la Sierra, age 28, died of several gunshot wounds.. One of the other men was Eduardo Ortega, a presumed relative to the singer, but the other man's identity remains unknown.

Authorities indicate that Ortega Piñón had a criminal history; he had been arrested last year in Encenada when he was apprehended with a kilo of crystal meth in his possession. Police also found illegal firearms, several ammunition clips, and $20,000 in cash when they boarded his small yacht. The guest list included several known operators of Teodoro Simental, El Teo.

He still had several federal felony charges pending in Nayarit at the time of his death.
Ortega, native of Chihuahua, was famous for being a friend of the narcos and they would hire him to play their parties.

The lifestyle has changed me
When speaking on his arrest in Ensenada one year later, Ortega declared: The lifestyle has changed me. I was scared whenever I saw a soldier, but I was sincerely mistaken; this can happen to anyone, there are innocents everywhere: we were all innocent that day."

Ortega recorded 36 albums; he was also in a movie called Alineando cabritos, along with Amador Granados El Alacrán.

Also killed recently: Sergio Gómez, lead singer for K-Paz de la Sierra, was murdered after playing a concert at a party. He was kidnapped, tortured, and his body was found in the community of Chiquimitío, about 10 km from Morelia, Michoacán.

Carlos Ocaranza Rodríguez, El Loco Elizalde, is one of the latest casualties in the last three months. He was killed as he signed autographs at a bar called La Revancha, on Vallarta avenue, in Chapultepec, Chihuahua. Armed men arrived in a truck with Sinaloa license plates and open fire, according to the state SSP.

In the same manner, in Culiacán a group of sicarios killed singer Sergio Vega, better known as El Shaka, as he was driving in a late model Cadillac along the México-Nogales 15 highway.
Hours earlier he had called a local radio station to dispel rumors of his untimely death.

"It's happened to me for years now, someone tells a radio station or a newspaper I've been killed, or suffered an accident," Vega said. "And then I have to call my dear mum, who has heart trouble, to reassure her."

The singer had commented on his own death before it actually took place.

There has always been a relationship between norteño music and organized crime. In 2009 the PGR arraigned Ramón Ayala and Los Bravos del Norte, los Cadetes de Linares and Grupo Torrente for having ties to the Beltrán Leyva brothers and their cartel.

Ayala was released due to health reasons. The PGR used discretion in prosecuting 18 people who were present when elements of the marines attempted to apprehend several leaders of the previously mentioned cartel during a party in Tepoztlán, Morelos.

La Barbie
Édgar Valdez Villareal, La Barbie, has assured authorities that criminal groups kill singers and their band members “because they hang out with a rival group or cartel, or because they refused to sing for a particular narco, or just for acting stupid." La Barbie also says he was friends with Ramón Ayala and almost all the norteños.

The former sicario for the Beltrán Leyva cartel has this to say about narco corrido singers: So they are friends of yours (narcos), but they are not traffickers themselves, usually they just sing. But at the end of the day they know who you are, and they know what your business is. He also claims Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán personally ordered the hit on Sergio, although he wasn't clear if it was Sergio Vega, El Shaka or Sergio Gómez, singer of K-Paz de la Sierra.

“They killed Sergio because he was singing in the wrong area ... I think it was El Chapo perhaps, or somebody close to him that told him not to play somewhere,” revealed Valdez Villarreal.

The Corrido of Don Alejo
Monterrey, NL.- Two residents of Nuevo Leon, Hilario and Macario, have immortalized the events that occurred on the ranch in San José.

The bravery demonstrated by a 77 year old man who stood his ground against a large force of sicarios was the creative force behind the song. The story has propelled the man to mythic proportions.

These events happened recently this past 13th of November, Don Alejo Garza Tamez refused to surrender his property and killed four of his assailants before being killed himself.

  1. The corrido for Don Alejo Garza sucks. And even worse are the video images. Maybe a well written marachi song would do him justice.

  2. Holy shit! Did you all read the article of Los Tucanos posted on November 28, 2009, almost a year to date? Read it and grasp what the article says between the lines, did this lead to the eventual fall of Muletas and El Teo?

  4. It shows you have talent and not be very smart. Rapper used to do the same thing in the USA until they realized it would cost them their lives....Live by the song...die by the sword.

no sea mamon morro, al Teo lo agarro la PFP por que ya lo tenian vigilado en B.C.S. Lo de las trocas clonadas era de un ataque que iban a realizar en Halloween. El Teo, Chiquilin and Muletas got caught because they were becoming a nuisance to public security in Tijuana.
