223 Executions in the First 8 Days of 2010


If the year 2009 was characterized by violence, the year 2010 started off even worse. So far in the first 8 days of Mexico's bicentennial, the number of executions has doubled in comparison with last year, going from 106 to 223.

Of the 223 cases for the year, 13 had traces of torture, 6 where decapitated and 7 had organized crime related messages.

The state that registered the most violent death cases was Chihuahua with 67, most of these deaths come from Ciudad Juarez, where the war for control of the drug war sales tallied 54 deaths in the first 8 days of the year.

In Sinaloa, the violence escalated after the death of Arturo Beltran Leyva, with 46 executions.


Thus, more than 50% of the national total are made up between the states of Chihuahua and Sinaloa.

The Governor of Sinaloa, Jesus Aguilar Padilla, acknowledged the impact of organized crime and assured that Federal operations will be reinforced in the cities of Los Mochis and Mazatlan.

Aguilar stated "The size of the problem, admittedly, in Los Mochis and Mazatlan has exceeded the rate that we are accustomed to, and necessary measures will be taken"

Other states that stand out for crimes are Baja California and Sonora with 22 executions each, Guerrero with 17, the State of Mexico with 13 and Michoacan with 10.
